Kube GmbH’s participation in the CAE Grand Challenge 2026 on May 19 and 20 in Hanau focused not only on technical presentations addressing current industry challenges but also, above all, on technical discussions and exchanges with experts from industry, research, and software development.
The event focused on current developments and issues in the field of computer-aided engineering (CAE) and their significance for virtual vehicle development. The conference brought together experts from various fields and facilitated a practical exchange of ideas on current technologies and methods.
A key feature of the CAE Grand Challenge is its organization around so-called “Grand Challenges.” These are addressed in dedicated sessions and examined from various perspectives through expert presentations and discussions. The sessions highlight both the relevance of these challenges to the development process and concrete, practical solutions.
This year’s “Grand Challenges” were based on an international survey of simulation experts from the automotive industry and reflected the current priorities in virtual vehicle development. The focus was on:
- Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Big Data
- CAE Process & Quality Assurance
- Durability / Fatigue
- Full Vehicle Simulation
- Material Modeling – Focus Structural Analysis
- Occupant Safety
- Optimization & Robustness
In addition to the technical content, the event offered a wide range of opportunities for manufacturers, suppliers, software providers, and research institutions to exchange ideas, thereby contributing significantly to knowledge transfer within the industry. The CAE Grand Challenge was organized by carhs gmbh.
As part of the session “Optimization and Robustness: Challenges of Multidisciplinary Design Optimization,” current approaches to multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) were presented, with the aim of making development processes more efficient, robust, and simulation-driven. One of the presentations in this session was “Kube KAB3L: HV Cables as an Interdisciplinary Modeling Approach” by our colleague Vitali Gerbershagen.
The presentation provided insights into our simulation-based cable modeling as well as interdisciplinary development approaches for high- and low-voltage systems in modern vehicle architectures. The focus was on a holistic view of electrical wiring systems and their representation in simulation, in order to precisely analyze and evaluate their behavior under realistic loads.
The insights gained and discussions held provided valuable impetus for the further development of simulation-driven development processes. In particular, topics such as artificial intelligence, multidisciplinary optimization, and virtual validation will have a significant impact on future vehicle development.
